While all Ecksand metals are 100% sustainable, choosing one or the other depends entirely on personal preference.

Gold

Since pure gold is very soft, almost all gold jewelry is made from an alloy that combines pure gold with other metals like nickel, silver, copper, zinc, and palladium. This combination depends on the gold colour desired. The purity of gold is measured using the karat system, expressed in parts out of 24, in which 24K gold is comprised of 100% pure gold.

18K gold

18K gold consists of 18 parts pure gold, mixed with 6 parts other metals. Thanks to this combination, 18K gold is slightly more hypoallergenic than 14K with a higher purity level of 75% pure gold, giving it a vibrant, rich colour that can be especially noticed in yellow gold jewels.

14K gold

14K gold is made up of 14 parts pure gold, mixed with 10 parts other metals. Due to its composition, this gold karat is slightly more durable and affordable than 18K gold. If you prefer gold over platinum, and you work with your hands or have an active lifestyle, then 14K gold is the one for you!

Platinum

Notorious for its durability and hypoallergenic features, platinum jewelry is over 90% pure platinum and is only mixed with other similar metals known as the platinum group metals. This precious metal is a popular choice for bridal jewelry as it requires very little upkeep, however, it is only available in one colour; white.

Natural or lab-grown, all of Ecksand’s diamonds are ethically sourced and carefully selected by our expert gemologists to meet our strict quality standards. When you choose a natural Ecksand diamond you’re empowering small, conflict-free mines that are dedicated to bettering their communities. If mined diamonds aren’t for you, our selection of lab-grown diamonds are created using cutting-edge technology and are physically and chemically identical to natural diamonds.

Shape

Diamonds come in a variety of shapes, each with its own unique characteristics. The most popular diamond shape is the round brilliant cut, which is known for its exceptional brilliance and sparkle. Other popular shapes include princess, cushion, emerald, oval, marquise, and pear. No matter what shape you choose, you can be sure that your Ecksand diamond will shine bright for years to come.

Your Diamond Size - The Carat

A good indicator of a diamond’s size is its weight. A diamond’s weight is measured in carats, with 1 carat equal to 0.2 grams. At Ecksand we offer diamonds from 0.30 carat and up.

Your Diamond Colour

Surprisingly, a diamond’s colour actually refers to its absence of colour. A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water. Graded on a spectrum created by the GIA, a diamond’s colour ranges from D to Z. It measures the degree of colorlessness by comparing a stone under controlled lighting and precise viewing conditions to master stones of established colour value.

Your Diamond Clarity

Ranging from Flawless (No inclusions nor blemishes visible under 10x magnification) to Included (Inclusions are visible to the naked eye), the GIA Diamond Clarity Scale refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes within a diamond. All of Ecksand’s diamonds, natural or lab, range from Flawless to Slightly Included (or SI, where inclusions can only be seen under 10x magnification).

The price you see will always include the price of both the diamond and the setting you’ve selected, whether the band is plain or is accented with diamonds.

Diamond cut

Not to be confused with shape, a diamond’s cut refers to how well its facets interact with light. Detailed workmanship is required to cut a stone so that its proportions, symmetry and polish all work together to deliver an impeccable return of light only possible in a diamond. Ecksand takes pride in selecting exclusively Excellent-cut round diamonds for unparalleled brilliance.

Diamond Polish

Polish refers to the smoothness of a diamond’s surface. In addition to cut, polish is an important factor in your diamond’s overall beauty. At Ecksand, we only select round diamonds with excellent polish, and fancy diamonds with very good polish.

Diamond Symmetry

Symmetry refers to how precisely a diamond’s facets align with each other. In addition to cut, symmetry is an important factor in your diamond’s overall beauty. At Ecksand, we only select round diamonds with excellent symmetry, and fancy diamonds with very good symmetry.

Fluorescence

A diamond’s fluorescence is the faint glow some of them emit when exposed to ultraviolet rays. Its important to note that fluorescence very rarely affects the diamond’s quality or appearance, and only does so if the diamond itself has pre-existing brilliance issues like haziness or light-scattering defects. Luckily for you, we never offer diamonds with these issues.

In an elegant display of brilliance, petite diamonds pave their way through high-end sustainable bands, climb up delicate prongs, or gracefully wrap around ethically-sourced center stones, adding just a touch of extra glamour. Side stones

In a Trilogy or a Cluster style ring, the sizable diamonds or gemstones adjacent to the centre stone are referred to as side stones.

The dark background and the movement of the stone allow you to see the contrast between the faceting as well as the luminescence and any inclusions.
