To our Ecksand community,

The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the importance, now more than ever, of nurturing and protecting our communities and environment. It has also reinforced the core values at the heart of everything we do at Ecksand: to make sure your special moments are celebrated in a conscious and everlasting way. Your health, safety, and well-being are of the utmost importance to us, as well. We believe it’s crucial for us to do our part to help reduce the transmission of the novel coronavirus. Here are some of the steps we’re taking to protect our communities during this time.

We’re working hard to ensure the Ecksand jewels you love are available when you want them and are delivered to you in the safest way possible.

  • We are following best practices advised by the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Province of Quebec, and the City of Montreal.
  • At our atelier, headquarters, and boutique, we have implemented increased sanitation standards and are increasing our daily cleaning routines, including handwashing, use of hand sanitizer, and cleaning of work surfaces and equipment.
  • Our customer service team and brand ambassadors are available to provide you with any information on your Ecksand order, including the delivery options best for you, and on the precautions we’re taking to protect your health and safety.

We’re equally committed to supporting our employees during this time.

  • We are providing resources to our employees to modify how they work, including flex scheduling and remote work solutions.
  • We are providing protective reusable face masks and our class 1 medical grade Ecksand face shields to all employees who are working at our headquarters, atelier, and boutique.

In accordance with the government of Quebec’s new protocols, we’ve made a few changes to our in-store experience to ensure the health and safety of all clients and team members. Here is what to expect during your next boutique visit, with Ecksand’s Go Forward strategy.

    • The Montreal store will be open

Monday - Friday: 11am - 6pm
Saturday: 10am - 5pm

  • We have set up a sanitization station at our store’s entrance. We ask that all clients please disinfect their hands and take one of the provided face masks upon entering the store.
  • We have equipped all Ecksand employees with an Ecksand face shield.
  • We have implemented increased sanitization standards throughout the boutique.
  • We’re limiting the capacity of clients in our boutique to optimize distancing.

Ecksand ethical fine jewelry knows no bounds, that’s why our shipping service is always free of charge. We ship internationally for free while ensuring the safety of your jewelry. With our confidential FedEx priority fully-insured parcel, your Ecksand order is shipped to you safely, and is always gift wrapped in an Ecksand signature black jewelry box and placed in an Ecksand shopping bag.

Here’s how we make sure your order is shipped safely:

For international orders

Ecksand does not charge taxes on orders shipped outside of Canada. All orders shipped outside of Canada may be subject to any local taxes and custom duties due upon delivery. What is the delivery time?

No matter where you are located, we guarantee our shipping service is reliable and efficient.

For Ecksand Fine Jewelry items, your order is delivered within 10 to 14 business days.

Our bridal rings (Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings) and custom jewelry are each made-to-order and are handcrafted in our atelier by our master jewellers. Your ethical, high-quality bridal ring or custom jewel will be delivered to your door within 4 weeks.

How can I change the delivery address after I placed an order?

Easy Returns and Exchanges

What is the Ecksand return policy?

Your satisfaction is our priority and we do everything to assure that your Ecksand jewel surpasses your expectations. In the event that you need to return your Ecksand order, we’ve got you covered. Returns are accepted within 10 days from the date of shipment reception (minus a 5% restocking fee). Beyond this time frame, all sales are considered final and no returns will be accepted.

Additional return information

Both online orders and purchases at the Montreal Ecksand store can be returned either at the Montreal store or by mail by following our return shipping policy.

Please note that the following items cannot be returned:

  • Improperly packaged items
  • Damaged and used items
  • Items that have been altered, engraved or resized

How do I return my Ecksand jewel?

It’s safe and easy to return your Ecksand jewel. To prepare your Ecksand order for return, we ask that you pack it with all its original documentation and enclose the Return Merchandise Authorization Form available here. Please make sure to fill this form with the information of the item(s) you are returning.

Use the pre-paid FedEx priority fully-insured shipping label, provided to you in your original order, to ship the Ecksand item(s) you wish to return. To ensure the safety of your Ecksand jewel(s) in transit, please note that all returns are subject to a flat-discounted return shipping fee.

How can I exchange my Ecksand jewel?

Thinking about another Ecksand jewel? No worries, you can exchange your Ecksand jewel free of charge. In the event that you'd like to exchange your jewel, we will give you store credit to place a new order.

Please note that shipping charges are not refundable. The original shipping fee and a flat-discounted return shipping fee are deducted from your credit store.

Can I get a refund?

We’re sorry to hear that you wish to return your Ecksand jewel. However, we provide returns on all Ecksand jewelry.

On Fine Jewelry items only, you can opt for a full store credit or a refund minus a restocking fee of 5%.

Due to their custom nature, we cannot process refunds on all Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings, at the moment. If you ordered your Ecksand jewel online, without any personalisation, engraving, or customisation elements, then it falls under our Easy 10 Days return policy.

Free Engraving

Is It free to engrave my wedding ring?

At Ecksand, we are passionate about creating rings that will represent your love, now and forever. This is why we provide our engraving service, free of charge, so you can customise your Ecksand wedding ring with a personal touch. Through our engraving service, you can add up to 15 characters of the message of your choice to your engagement or wedding ring, free of charge. Please note that we cannot accept returns on any engraved jewels.

Free resize

Is It free to resize my ring?

At Ecksand, we make sure your ring has the perfect fit so that you feel comfortable wearing it everyday. That’s why we will provide the first resize of your ring, free of charge. Please note that we cannot accept a return on any jewels that have been resized.

Additional information

We provide the first resize, free of charge. In the event that another resize is required, a $180 CAD fee will be charged.

How long does it take to have my ring resized?

We resize your ring in our low-emission atelier in downtown Montreal, Canada within 10 business days.

Leaving town next week to pop the question in a romantic getaway? We can resize your ring in 5 business days with a $49 CAD rush fee.

How do I figure out the right ring size for me?

To figure out your ring size, you can use the Ecksand size guide available here. However, if you’re not sure or don’t have a ring that fits you perfectly, you can visit any jewelry store near you to have your finger sized.

To aid in the resizing process, we suggest that you send us a video of yourself wearing the ring before your Ecksand reize. This will help our experts figure out the perfect ring size for you.

How do I return my ring for resize?

At Ecksand, we’re dedicated to providing you with the best experience. As our jewelry is handcrafted for lifetime wear, it’s important that your forever ring fits you perfectly. This is why we offer your first ring resize free of charge instead of our standard resize fee of $180 CAD.

By mail: Use the pre-paid FedEx priority fully-insured shipping label, provided to you in your original order, to ship the Ecksand item(s) you wish to have resized. To ensure the safety of your Ecksand jewel in transit, please note that returning a ring for resize is subject to a flat-discounted return shipping fee of $98.

When is my order going to be ready?

When you place an order at Ecksand, we will send you a confirmation email with the details of your order. Once your order is confirmed, we will email you an invoice. The “READY-FOR” date at the top right hand corner of your invoice will inform you of your order’s date of readiness.

Picking up the order at the Ecksand Montreal store? You can stop by the day of the date of readiness after 2pm. By then, your order will be completed and ready to pick-up.

Is your order delivered to you? When your order is ready, we ship it to you with our free FedEx priority fully-insured shipping service and you receive your parcel in less than 48 hours (on business days).

International orders

What methods of payment are accepted by the Ecksand online store?

The Ecksand online store accepts the following payment methods:

The total will be charged to your card upon placing your order. Ecksand’s online store (ecksand.com) features a fast and secure guest checkout, which assures that your credit card information is not kept on file.

PayPal:Shop easily online with PayPal. By using PayPal, you do not have to enter your credit card details on the website. Your PayPal account will be charged once your Ecksand order is completed.

By Phone: You may also process your payment securely by phone with the help of an Ecksand expert.

How does Ecksand safeguard my credit card and personal information?

On the Ecksand Online Store, every purchase is made with maximum security thanks to full advanced encryption services (SSL) which encrypt the connection between your browser and Cloudflare, and from Cloudflare to your server. We only use protected connections, as demonstrated by the "https" URL prefix and the lock symbol that appears in the browser's address bar.

To safeguard your credit card purchases, you will always be asked to enter your CVV code for every order whether placed by phone or through our online store. Our Payments department may carry out anti-fraud checks before approving the transaction; they may contact you for further details before confirming the order.

Will I be charged sales tax on my purchase?

Taxes are calculating according to your delivery address. The following are the tax rates charged to your Ecksand order depending on the Canadian province in which you’re located:

  • Alberta - 5% GST will be applied
  • British Columbia - 12% HST will be applied
  • Labrador – 13% HST will be applied
  • Manitoba - 5% GST and 8% PST will be applied
  • Nunavut - 5% GST will be applied
  • Nova Scotia - 15% HST will be applied
  • New Brunswick - 15% HST will be applied

I am an International customer. How are sales taxes applied?

International customers are required to pay their state sales tax upon delivery of their purchase. Ecksand does not charge taxes on orders shipped outside of Canada.

Lifetime Warranty

Does my Ecksand jewelry comes with a warranty?

Ecksand was founded on the premise that jewelry is forever. That’s why we offer our Ecksand Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty to all customers, on all Ecksand products.

What does Ecksand lifetime craftsmanship (E.L.C.) warranty entail?

The basics covered by E.L.C. Warranty extend to all fine jewelry, including but not limited to Ecksand engagement rings. The E.L.C. Warranty covers all defects incurred during the craftsmanship process, i.e. craftsmanship defects. In order to be considered a craftsmanship defect, our jewellers must assess that in fact this defect was a result of craftsmanship and not of normal wear and tear, for example. The E.L.C. Warranty offers a lifetime of coverage on all Ecksand jewelry. If damage of your jewelry is due to a craftsmanship defect, Ecksand will repair or replace the parts in question, free of charge. In some circumstances, you will have to pay a fee. In exceptional circumstances only will Ecksand replace the entire item free of charge.

Please note that our E.L.C. Warranty is no longer available on Ecksand jewels that have been altered by companies other than Ecksand.

Are there any other services included in the E.L.C. warranty?

To make sure our rings are perfectly comfortable for you to wear every day, we offer a resizing service for your Ecksand ring. This service is free of charge on the first resize. Learn more about the Resize policy here.

Is the E.L.C. Warranty also applicable on custom rings?

The E.L.C. Warranty covers every Ecksand jewelry piece, including but not limited to custom rings unless the diamonds or gems are provided by the customer.

What about center stones?

Center stones or diamonds are not subject to the lifetime warranty. We encourage our customers to get their jewelry insured by their personal insurance. If a center stone is loose, Ecksand customers can bring their jewelry in for a complimentary check up. The warranty does not cover the loss of a center stone. In the case of a loss, Ecksand customers are invited to contact their personal insurance.

What are the conditions I must meet to benefit the E.L.C. warranty and maintain its coverage?

The E.L.C. is available only to the individual who directly purchased the jewelry from Ecksand. To benefit from the warranty and the services it provides, Ecksand requires: (i) a proof of purchase; (ii) that all prior services on your jewelry have been performed by Ecksand. Maintenance, repair, upgrading, sizing, or other services performed by an individual or company other than Ecksand, after purchase, will void the E.L.C. Warranty. In order to maintain coverage of the E.L.C. Warranty, Ecksand requires a regular cleaning and inspection every year starting from the time of your original purchase.

Aftercare

Does Ecksand offer cleaning and polishing after purchase?

We offer our customers free cleaning and polishing for any jewelry for up to 1 year from the date of purchase.

Repurposing

Can I use my own loose stone(s)?

Did you recently inherit or receive a gem that you find beautiful but are unsure what to do with it? Are you not even sure what type of gem it is? Our team of Ecksand experts can assess the quality of your gem and suggest how you can put it to best use.

Can I redesign an old piece of jewelry?

Yes. We adore giving a new life to old jewels and gems. We pride ourselves on integrating the sentimental attributes and value of your old jewel and gem into a new, modern piece. Our Ecksand atelier works with jewels from all across the world to reintegrate into new modernized designs. Will I receive credit for the metal and other stones that we cannnot use in a new design?

There are certain elements of a piece of jewelry you own that you love and certain things you love less. What to do? Our team of Ecksand jewellers and designers will assess the piece and see what is usable in a newly designed jewel and what is not. If there are materials that are not usable but still hold value, we will be able to apply credit towards your newly designed Ecksand jewel.

Do you purchase old jewelry?

At Ecksand, we love to recycle. It’s a sustainable way of doing business and it makes us proud of what we do. You can send your old pieces of jewelry to our headquarters via our shipping service or bring them in to the Montreal downtown store, where we will assess the value and issue a store credit applicable on any future Ecksand purchase.

Is It safe to send my old jewel or loose stone to ecksand via mail?

At Ecksand, we offer a lifetime diamond upgrade service on GIA certified natural untreated and un-enhanced round diamonds. You are welcome to bring back the ring you have bought from Ecksand for a diamond upgrade service with no restocking fee applied.

Packaging

What comes with my Ecksand jewel?

Whether you order online or from the Montreal jewelry store, all Ecksand jewels are gift wrapped in the Ecksand signature black jewelry box with the Ecksand shopping bag, and come with the Ecksand certificate of authenticity and any other documentation associated with your jewel (e.g. GIA report).

Does Ecksand provide different colours of packaging?

The Ecksand Diamonds

Where are Ecksand natural diamonds from?

As a first-tier dealer, we acquire our diamonds straight from the mines and cutting facilities with which we have built strong, long-lasting relationships. The mines from which we hand-select our diamonds are located in Botswana, Canada, Australia. These mines are 100% conflict-free. They comply with the UN resolutions and the Kimberley Process scheme. This is to say that every single mine from which Ecksand acquires its diamonds is governed by strict, formal labor laws that ensure appropriate work conditions and prohibit child labor, among other standards, which ensure each Ecksand diamond is entirely ethically-sourced. We even go beyond the Kimberley Process by ensuring we source our stones from suppliers that actively take part in social economic redistribution, such as building hospitals or reinvesting in land conservation.

Do Ecksand have Canadian branded diamonds?

Ecksand carries Canadian branded diamonds with GIA certification, paper copy of the Diamond Grading Report and the Canada mark certification authenticating the provenance of where the diamond was mined in Canada.

Are Canadian diamonds better than other Ecksand diamonds?

The only benefit of owning an Ecksand Canadian diamond versus a diamond from Botswana or Australia is having the Canadian brand associated with it. We believe that all Ecksand diamonds have the same ethical value whether they’re from Canada, Australia or Botswana. As all Ecksand fine jewels are proudly handcrafted in our Canadian atelier, we feel that it is of the utmost importance that you receive a Canadian-made ring crafted with ethical diamonds.

Are Canadian diamonds more expensive than other diamonds?

There is a slight difference in the pricing of Canadian diamonds because of the efforts involved in tracing and branding the diamond. However, it is important to note that diamond prices will always vary according to the clarity, color, cut of the diamond, among other characteristics.

At Ecksand, we are extremely conscious of the impact we have in the world. That's why we only acquire our diamonds from mines that share the same values as we do. Botswana has tied together its diamond wealth to invest in the future of the country and its people. GDP and standards of living for the people of Botswana are rising because the government, who owns a portion of the diamond production industry, puts this money back into the economy. In this way, Ecksand supports ethical diamond production, social redistribution, and ensures that every Ecksand diamond is 100% ethical.

What type of certification do I get with my Ecksand diamond?

As a renowned Canadian jewelry brand, we pride ourselves in maintaining the highest level of transparency about the true characteristics of your diamond. Each and every single Ecksand diamond featured on the website is natural, untreated, and unenhanced. To maintain our high-quality standards, we only select eye-clean diamonds with an impeccable cut. All colorless diamonds over 0.30 carat come with GIA laser inscription and certification, which you will receive in paper copy upon purchase. On all purchases, including gemstones, you will receive an Ecksand certificate of authenticity.

What does GIA certified mean?

GIA stands for the Gemological Institute of America, an institution highly regarded for its strict grading system and standards regarding diamonds. Prior to arriving at the Ecksand atelier, each Ecksand diamond goes through a thorough analysis and receives a final grading report (this is like a passport for your diamond). The grading report contains all the data regarding your diamond. We highly recommend you keep it in a safe place upon receiving your jewel, as this report is associated with your diamond and carries the inscription number that is embedded in the diamond.

Does Ecksand offer recycled diamonds?

At Ecksand, we offer recycled diamonds to cater to the varied preferences of our clients. We offer recycled diamonds as an option for Ecksand engagement rings and in the creation of custom jewelry pieces to ensure you receive the perfect jewel. To maintain our high standards of quality, we only select eye-clean recycled diamonds with an impeccable cut. All Ecksand recycled diamonds are re-polished and re-cut, to meet these high standards, before being used to create new pieces of jewelry.
